Snorkeling in and around the St. Lucia Wetlands Park is described as some of the best in the world. Do not miss it for anything in the world.

Cape Vidal Beach Cape Vidal:

The Indian Ocean is one of the five major ecosystems of the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park. The warm turquoise waters at Cape Vidal are home to a host of marine life. While Snorkeling here you will observe colorful reef fish moving fast over and around the reef rocks while keeping your eyes open for rays, octopus, sea slugs and turtles.
The tranquil beauty of the underwater world is indescribably beautiful and to truly experience all that the iSimangaliso World Heritage Site has to offer, one should make some time to enjoy its truly unique underwater marvels.
Snorkeling safaris are being offered to various exclusive destinations, all within the iSimangaliso Wetlands Park. Cape Vidal is the nearest and one of the most popular Snorkeling reef to St. Lucia and is perfect for beginner snorkelers and children as well as the more experienced snorkeler.

Sodwana Bay and other Destinations:Cape Vidal view

The world famous Sodwana Bay is also a very popular option, it has a stunning sandy beach, protected reefs and is rated as one of the five best coral reef diving spots in the world, it promises outstanding Snorkeling. Bhanga Nek, another very popular Snorkeling spot is part of the pristine Kosi Bay area and is situated in the heart of Maputaland Turtle Sanctuary. Turtles are a common sighting on Snorkeling trips, with rays, fire fish and octopus as regular features.

Cape Vidal snorkelCombo's:

Snorkeling trip can be combined with game drives or other adventures, since you need to travel through the Greater St. Lucia Wetlands Park. Along the way you can stop and take a walk up to the Mount Tabor view point where you will be treated to outstanding views of the St. Lucia Lake and Estuary on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other. Your visit to Cape Vidal must include a trip up to the Whale Watching tower at Cape Vidal, although this is mostly during the Whale season (June-Nov), it is optional out of season for guests who may be lucky enough to spot dolphins.

Snorkeling trips can also be combined with an early morning, or late afternoon safari through the Hluhluwe/Imfolozi Game Reserve. A visit to the magnificent Lake Sibaya is a given, a pristine inland lake that is very unique because it used to be linked to the ocean. This has meant that the fish in the lake have adapted to the 'new' freshwater conditions!
Snorkeling at Cape Vidal is very popular due to the parts of the wreck of the Dorothea lie strewn for kilometers in the waters around Cape Vidal, where it sank on 31 January 1898.
Rumor has it that it took on too much water due to the tons of Boer Republic gold sealed under concrete on the boat. Apparently some gold was recovered from the wreck by an expedition in the early 80s.
